Police in Blantyre have arrested 10 people in connection to a spate of carjacking incidents in the city and surrounding areas.

South West Police Region deputy publicist, Beatrice Mikuwa has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Mikuwa, the suspects who were moving in groups pretended to be customers by hiring taxis- and while on the trip, they would then attack the unsuspecting drivers with pepper spray.

She disclosed, “the suspects were then breaking the vehicles for parts, some of which we have recovered, believed to be from three different vehicles.

Police have since urged taxi operators to take precaution measures when ferrying a group of people.
