The Council for University of Malawi (UNIMA), formerly known as Chancellor College (CHANCO) has said it will challenge an injunction obtained by the school’s six law students which is restraining the council from establishing five schools in the University.

This has been confirmed in a MEMO released by Acting Registrar of UNIMA Mary Wasili addressed to students seen by this publication.

According Wasili, while the injunction has not affected the delivery of any of the programmes it has the potential to negatively affect timelines and targets set after the unbundling of the University.

Among others the students argue that appointments of Executive Deans who will be heading the schools flouted the Gender Equality Act as there is no female executive dean that has been appointed.
