Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has blasted Ombudsman Grace Tikambenji Malera for ordering National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) board to fire Helen Buluma.
Malera ordered the board after investigation to her appointment revealed that former President Peter Mutharika directed Secretary to President and Cabinet (SPC) then to hire Buluma as Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
According to Malera, the opposition DPP created the position to accommodate Buluma for being royal to the Party.
Due to this find, Malera directed that the appointment of Nocma deputy CEO Helen Buluma should be treated as it never happened and no benefits should be paid for the time served.
The Ombudsman has also directed that Buluma’s contract should be terminated forthwith and if any extension was done it must be nullified forthwith.
According to Ombudsman’s determination, Buluma should not be allowed to benefit from an illegality.
Writing on his official facebook page after the order Chimbanga expressed shock with Malera’s order.
“So Helen Buluma can be treated this way but Henry Kachaje gets to keep his job because he is MCP?,” wrote Chimbanga.
Some DPP supporters have since asked Buluma to seek court intervention on the matter.
Meanwhile, Buluma is yet to comment on the matter.
