The Tonse Alliance government through Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MoEST) has denied social media reports indicating that Mirriam Kachala, a learner from Zomba district who has emerged as a top performer in Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examination has been offered a scholarship at Kamuzu Academy.

On Monday, social media was awash with reports that Kachala has been offered a scholarship at Kamuzu Academy alone despite be a joint top scorer with Joseph Magombo from Lilongwe.

According to information at hand both has scoped 448 marks out of 500 marks.

The news attracted mixed reactions with others pushing for Magombo’s scholarship.

But government through Ministry of Education has trashed the news, describing it as false.

“The two top performers in the 2022 PSLCE examinations, Mirriam Kachala from Zomba Urban and Joseph Magombo from Lilongwe City who both scored 448/500 have been selected to the prestigious Blantyre Secondary School – one of the 25 National Secondary Schools in the country.

“The two will join fellow top performers (boy and girl) in all the 34 education districts country wide who automatically are placed on the Press Trust scholarship program for top performers in their respective districts,” reads in part the statement.

Added the statement: “News of any other scholarship being offered/given to Mirriam or Joseph is not true.”

Schools in the country will open on October 10, 2022.
