The Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has granted bail to 17 officials from the Accountant General’s office who are suspected to have been part of the K283 million allowances scam.
The 17 appeared before the court today for bail ruling. They were arrested on October 11, 2022.
CRM Madalitso Chimwaza has granted bail to the 17 on condition that each suspect pays a bail bond of K300,000, each suspect should produce two reliable sureties bonded at K10 million each non-cash.
The court has also ordered the suspects to surrender travel documents and the suspects should be reporting to police once every month and should not interfere with police investigations.
