The United Democratic Front (UDF) which is currently headed by Lilian Patel has endorsed the planned anti-government demonstrations organized by some Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) led by social commentator Joshua Chisa Mbele.
The demonstrations are set for tomorrow and Friday in the country’s major cities.
In a statement made available to to faceofmalawi, the party’s Acting National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Mwawa said they understand economic, social and leadership challenges the country is passing through hence the endorsement.
Mwawa cited the mess surrounding this year Affordable Input Program (AIP) as one of the reasons people should demonstrate.
Citizens Against Impunity and Corruption, Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives, Concerned Citizens Timely Voice and Social Revolution Movement including some human rights defenders are the ones behind the scheduled demonstrations.
