Students from the University of Malawi (UNIMA), formerly known as Chancellor College have today started boycotting classes to force management to make some changes to the academic calendar.

The students are protesting a calendar that keeps them at home up to 5 or 6 months every time they are moving from semester to another.

According to the students, the calendar is costly o them and parents because it takes 7 years to complete a 4 year degree.

In the resolutions made yesterday after the general assembly, the students described the academic calendar as “retrogressive, outrageous, repugnant and unreasonable.”

This morning, the students have blocked the Chilunga Road with big stones and the road is impassable at the moment.
