Outspoken social media activist Joshua Chisa Mbele is yet to appear in court after his arrest on Friday for bail application.

Chisa Mbele was arrested on Friday as he was leading demonstrators to State House to deliver petition.

He led anti-government protests expressing dissatisfaction with how President Lazarus Chakwera and his Tonse Alliance administration is handling government affairs.

Among others, Chisa Mbele, bemoaned high cost of living and rampant corruption in the Tonse Alliance government.

While in custody, Chisa Mbele, alleged that he was assaulted by police and had his phone smashed, but police have refuted the claims.

The Malawi Human rights Commission have on the other hand instituted investigations into the alleged physical assault.
