Police at Mponela in Dowa are keeping in custody a 17- year-old boy on suspicion that he defiled a 15-year-old form one student.

Sergeant Macpatson Msadala Public Relations Officer Mponela Police Station, the suspect identified as Shadreck Phiri is alleged to have committed the offence during the months of August and November 2022 and got arrested on November 16, 2022.

It is reported that last year of 2021, the victim left her home village, Mafosha and went to Khwenthe Village where her biological father was staying with her step-mother.

During the same year 2021, the victim started form one at Mponela Community Day Secondary School

In August 2022, the victim fell in love with Phiri and after a day she had unprotected sexual intercourse with the victim at his shop at Kalinda where he sold bicycle parts.

The same month of August 2022, the victim missed her monthly period and she informed the suspect about the issue where the suspect gave the victim his mother’s phone number.

The victim called the mother to the suspect who advised her to come to her house and stay with Phiri as a family.

Since October 2022, the suspect never speak or support the victim.

The matter was reported to police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The suspect will appear before court soon to answer a case of defilement when the investigations are over.

Shadreck Phiri hails from Msambambeta Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mponela while the victim hails from Mafosha Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chakhaza, both from Dowa District.
