Police in Kasungu are keeping in custody Cosam Phiri aged 68 and Malani Phiri aged 30 for allegedly being found in possession of raw ivory weighing 20.1 kg at Nkhamenya in Kasungu.
According to Kasungu police spokesperson Joseph Kachikho, the two suspects were arrested yesterday at Nkhamenya hospital as they were looking for a place to sell the ivory.
“After getting the information, Parks and Wildlife Department Officials pretended to be buyers for them to follow up and arrest the two suspects.” He said
Cosmas Phiri and Malani Phiri come from Chimodzimodzi Village, Traditional Authority Mwase in Kasungu.
