The Chairperson of Shaping Our Future Foundation (SOFF), First lady Monica Chakwera has received a funding of K1.5 billion from the Plan International Malawi to support girl’s education in the country.
The signing agreement took place yesterday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe where the Country Director for Plan International Malawi, Pheobe Kasonga and the First Lady signed the deal.
According to Kasonga, 60 percent of the grant will go to SOFF as an implementing partner where 950 secondary school students in the country will benefit from the fund especially girls with 75 percent.
In addition to that, the fund is going to reach students who dropped out from school because they lack school fees as well as constructing pit latrines in different schools, training mother groups and them sewing machines and also supporting role models for the girls and engaging parents.
The Plan International grant will run for four years.
