A 4-year-old girl has died in a road accident in Kasungu after being hit by a motor vehicle.

She has been identified as Metrina Mwale from Bondo Village in Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe in Kasungu.

The accident which happened on Wednesday, November 7, 2022 at Lisasadzi trading centre along Kasungu – Lilongwe M1 road, involved a motor registration number BS 563 Toyota Hilux double cabin, driven by Roy Kantande.

The vehicle was being driven from the direction of Kasungu going towards Lilongwe.

Upon arrival at Lisasadzi Trading Centre, the driver suddenly saw an oncoming truck registration number LA 8530 Fuso Fighter, driven by Fransisco Mkumba overtaking another truck and to avoid a head on collision with the coming vehicle he pulled his vehicle to the near verge where in the process the vehicle hit Metrina who was standing by the roadside with friends.

Following the impact, Metrina sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kasungu District Hospital.

Meanwhile, police have arrested the driver of the Fuso Fighter track, Mkumba, for the charge of causing death by reckless driving and he will appear before court soon.

Police are therefore advising road users to adhere to all road traffic rules and regulations to avoid preventable road accidents.
