Nsanje district council has lost K600, 000 due to avoiding of payment of market fees by the business community at the district’s markets.
Records show that less than K200, 000 was being collected in a week from the market.
Three weeks now, the business community has reject the payment of market fees protesting alleged delay by the council to dig drainage systems, lamenting their shops are literally flooded as a result.
Chairperson for the business community, Samson Folopensi said, “even though the dredging work has commenced, we will only resume paying the market fees after all the work is done.”
There has been no immediate comment from Nsanje district council.
