The Malawi Blood Transfusion Services (MBTS) said it is in need of 10, 000 units of blood to help accident survivors in hospitals, expectant mothers and children during this festive and rainfall seasons.

MBTS public relations officer, Natalia Mbale, said during this festive season blood will be needed since accidents and malaria-induced anemia are on the rise.

According to Mbale, there is unwillingness of blood donation and many blood donors will be on vacations.

Mbale added that they have stepped up blood collection drive in communities to meet the need, hence appealing to citizens to give blood to help save lives.

While praising the MBTS for educating the populace on the same, health expert, Professor Maurine Chirwa, said it is high time people realized the importance of donating blood.
