Vendors at Goliati Market in Thyolo district has asked the district council to clean the market place which they claim it has been uncleaned since 2017.

By showing anger, vendors has refused to pay their daily market fee starting Monday this week to force the council to clean the market.

According to Richard Mukota, the Market Chairperson, this is the last option they have after they have been appealing authorities in different ways but to no avail.

In addition to that, Mukota said it is worrisome that the garbage may turn the market into a place that may cause Cholera in the area.

Acting Thyolo district council environmental officer, Witness Mbendera, said they are planning to engage the area’s village headman to identify a piece of land for a dumping site.
