Project Officer for Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) Richard Chirwa, has called for collaborated efforts in dealing with the cholera outbreak that has hit some parts of the country.

Chirwa said this during a water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) meeting which took place on Wednesday.

According to Chirwa, the society plans to distribute different items to affected areas to control the spread of the outbreak.

“Some of the items include sachets of ORS, water-guard, chlorine and gloves. We have also trained 50 volunteers who will help with the provision of these items in Blantyre’s health centers,” he said.

Blantyre District Environmental Health Officer Catherine Mwapasa has asked all well-wishers to help the fight against the outbreak by donating items.

Malawi is experiencing one of its worst cholera outbreaks with about 13,837 cases and 410 deaths registered at national level.
