Balaka Health Office has received 20 tins of HTH (Chlorine) from Save the Children which is going to help in fighting against cholera outbreak in the district.

Health chairperson for Balaka civil society, Darlington Thole said this follows a call for help by the District Health Office which said was overwhelmed with the cases.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of Civil Society Organizations in the district has been conducted where an appeal has also been made for CSOs to assist the health office with awareness and materials for prevention and treatment of cholera.

District environmental health officer, Blessings Chinsime said with installed treatment camps now, health facilities have run out of cholera beds, plastic buckets and aprons among others.

Balaka has so far registered 12 deaths with 246 cases, 43 active cases and has since banned the sale of already prepared foods
