The Malawi Police Service is yet to name the three people arrested in connection to the shooting of Director of Budgeting in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Paul Mphwiyo.

According to the police yesterday, they had arrested three people in connection to the shooting for interrogation. The police, however, did not name the suspects or give any of their particulars. They did not even disclose where the suspects were being held.

The development has raised concerns in some quarters that the police have actually arrested no one and had given out that information just to pacify a public that was angered by the shooting.

Others have claimed that if the police have really arrested the suspects then it is time that the identities of the three are revealed.

“Nobody has been arrested, the case involves government top dogs and no arrest can be made over such. They have just lied to us,” wrote one commentator on Facebook.
