Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) is calling on President Lazarus Chakwera to declare the country as a disaster zone due to the current cholera outbreak.

CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa has also said it is high time the president reach out for a helping hand from international bodies.

According to Namiwa, the situation is out of hand adding that the current local support is not enough.

Citing alarming numbers of cases and deaths, the organization is urging the government to take immediate and drastic action to contain the spread of the disease and provide aid to affected communities.

So far 704 have died while 860 have been admitted and 21,024 are the confirmed Cholera cases.
