Machinga district council has issued an urgent appeal for help to support the victims of recent natural disasters that have struck the area.

Publicist for the district council Martin Chiwanda has reported that from December last year till now a total of 171 families have been affected.

The disaster has resulted in damage to homes, displacement of families, and loss of property and livelihoods.

According to Chiwanda, neither of the victims have received any help hence the call for support.

The district council has since called on the public, NGOs, private sectors, and other stakeholders to support the victims through donations of food, clothing, shelter and other essentials.

He also called on volunteers to assist with the recovery efforts, by helping with the distribution of aid, providing support to families, and assisting in the clean-up and rebuilding of homes and infrastructure.

The commissioner emphasized the need for a collective effort from the community to help the affected families and return them to normalcy as soon as possible

Since the beginning of disasters in the district, the areas of Traditional Authorities Sale, Sitola and Mposa have been affected by strong winds whereas Traditional Authority (T/A) Mchinguza experienced stormy rains.
