Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) public relations officer Peter Kanjere has revealed that over 100 sites in the country needs new transformers including Makapwa Mission Hospital in Thyolo where they have stayed for two months without electricity.
The hospital’s administrator, Jordan Maloya confirmed the development.
Maloya said the solar that they have is not helping as of now due to the rainy season.
According to Maloya, the blackout has affected the maternity services and storage of vaccines and other essential medicine at the facility.
Kanjere said the transformers have already been produced and are yet to be delivered by the supplier due to logistical challenges.
