Zambian Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu has issued a statement dispelling “malicious allegations” that he and his wife were involved in a marital dispute that resulted in him shooting her.

The statement, released on January 17th, 2023, clarifies that the purported incident is not true and that the minister was in Ndola District at the time of the alleged incident.

The statement also informs that the minister had left Lusaka on January 16th for the Nsama District of the Northern Province to lead the campaign team in the Kashikishi ward by-election scheduled for January 20th, 2023.

Furthermore, he also mentioned that he was unable to go straight to Mansa from Lusaka due to unavailability of direct flights, instead he had to spend the night in Ndola District.

The statement further emphasizes that both the minister and his wife have not been involved in any such acts as alleged, and that he has never owned a firearm.

He urges the general public to ignore the false claims, as they have no semblance of truth or honesty in them.

The minister also announced that they have begun the process of engaging the Zambia Police Service to bring to book the individuals behind such disturbing and malicious allegations.

He also assures that the general public will be informed of any developments in the matter.
