President Lazarus Chakwera is facing a deadline to fulfill his promise of a cabinet reshuffle, as he has only five days remaining to announce the new appointments.

In a New Year’s Day address, Chakwera pledged to unveil a leaner cabinet in January, and indicated that only individuals with the ability to deliver would be selected for the roles.

While the President did not reveal the exact number of individuals who will be appointed to the cabinet, the current cabinet is composed of 32 members, including the President, Vice President, ministers, and their deputies.

As the deadline approaches, some have expressed concerns over the performance of the current cabinet, with governance and political commentator Victor Chipofya stating that the cabinet has failed to adequately serve the people of Malawi.
