Southern and Eastern Region Members of Parliament (MPs) demand release of urea fertilizer they claim is being held by government.

The MPs gathered at the Smallholder Farmers Fertiliser Revolving Fund (SFFRFM) Chirimba Warehouse in Blantyre to demand the release of urea fertiliser, which they claim is under collateral management.

They argue that the SFFRM has the fertiliser but it is being deliberately withheld by the government.

The MPs claim that only 1000 metric tons of 5000 metric tons of urea received by the government last week were distributed to the two regions, with the rest “going somewhere else”.

MP Ben Phiri from Thyolo Central Constituency warned that failure to apply urea to maize this week would result in a poor harvest and failure for leaders to serve their constituents.
