Professor Asiyati Chiweza has been appointed as Director General of Malawi Schools of Government formerly known as Malawi Institution of Management (MIM).

Until her appointed Chiweza was serving as Associate Professor of Public Administration at Chancellor College.

The development means Jessie Kabwila who was serving as Acting Director General will revert to her post of Deputy Director General.

Asiyati Chiweza is Associate Professor who joined UNIMA Department in 1996 as a Lecturer after working as an Assistant Finance Officer in the Central Admin¬istration Office of the University of Malawi. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Curtin University, Western Australia based on thesis titled ‘Democracy, Decentralization and Development in Malawi’, a Masters Degree in Public Admin-istration, from Dalhousie University, Canada and a Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree from the University of Malawi.

Her fields of research and expertise in¬clude Decentralization and Local governance, Local government management, Public policy, Development Administration, Public Financial Management, and Public Sector Reform. She also has an interest in gender issues as it relates to governance. Asiyati has over the years taught a variety of courses such as Public Financial Management, Public Policy Analysis, Local Government and Adminis¬tration, Public Sector Reform, Research Methods and Development Adminis-tration.
