Lilongwe Principal Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba has revoked bail for Gerald Viola and Chrispin Chingola who have been found guilty in a maize supply deal at the National Food Reserve Agency.

In March last year, the court found Viola, Former Deputy Chief Executive Officer for NFRA Viola and Businessperson Chingola with a case to answer.

Viola was being accused of singlehandedly awarding a contract to Chingola’s company to supply 10000 tonnes of maize worth 3.3 billion kwacha.

Delivering the ruling on the matte Nyimba said the defence in the case have failed to give valid reasons to maintain bail hence revoking it.

The development means Viola will be remanded at Maula Prison while waiting for his sentencing on Monday 27 February at 10am.
