Lilongwe Principal Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba has sentenced the former Deputy Chief Executive of the National Food Reserve Agency (NRFA) and businessman Chrispin Chingola to three years imprisonment, but suspended for a period not exceeding two years.

The sentence came as a result of their involvement in a case involving the supply of 10,000 metric tonnes of maize worth K3.3 billion to NFRA.

The two were found guilty of committing offenses relating to public office and corruption.

Despite the guilty verdict, the sentence has been suspended for a period not exceeding two years.

This means that the two convicts will not go to prison unless they commit a similar crime or offense within that period.
