A complainant in Nsanje is accusing some police officers at Fatima Police Unit of demanding bribes to prosecute his case.

A complaint identified as Laston Meki has said that his cattle were stolen on Monday night at Buleya village in the area of Traditional Authority Mlolo and it was recovered at Chuluchamkango in the district and he reported the matter to police.

“Two of three suspects were arrested while one is at large. However, some law enforcers demanded K40, 000 from my brother so the case be taken to court for trial which is unacceptable,” claimed Meki said.

However, Nsanje Police Officer-In Charge, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr. Joseph Mutupha, has jumbled the claims by saying that the suspects have already taken to Bangula for trial on Wednesday 1 March.

Matupa added that he was at Fatima two weeks ago where members of the community showered praises to police officers at the Unit for executing their duties professionally.
