A 63-year-old village headman Mtsiro real name Yohane Mchita has hanged himself in a tobacco field.
The village head used a sisal rope to terminate his own life on March 5, 2023 within his village.
According to his wife, on the material day he woke up during the wee hours to one of their tobacco gardens while the wife and his children went to another garden.
During lunch time, the wife was surprised to notice that her husband was not returning back home as earlier arranged.
This prompted the wife to start searching for him and at around 17:30 hours, some villagers discovered him hanging on a tree.
When the matter was reported to Mponela Police Station, police officers together with a medical officer from Mponela Rural Hospital conducted a postmortem which established cause of death as suffocation secondary to strangulation.
The police continue to advise community members to seek for better ways of solving their problems instead of committing suicide.
