Villagers around Kamwe area in Mzimba north on Monday night freed from their homes following a mudslide Munthumukulu Hill in Chibisa Kaunda Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Mtwalo in Mzimba District as a result heavy rains.

An eye witness Thomas Ng’oma has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Ng’oma, around 10 pm villagers head loud burst around 10pm from the hills, forcing villagers to free their homes.

He said many villagers spent a night at Kamwe Primary School premises.

Speaking in an interview with the press M’mbelwa District Council risk and rehabilitation officer, Faith Longwe said the council is on alert.

Longwe said the council has visited the area and reported low impact on crops and houses.
