There is Trouble in the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the elective conference slatted for July this year as two camps have emerged in the Northern region.

The development follows the endorsement of former President Peter Mutharika as DPP torchbearer by Vice President for the North Goodall Gondwe and other top officials.

But another grouping led by Ken Msonda has blasted the the move, saying DPP northern bloc did not meet to make such a decision.

He said what Gondwe and others said yesterday is their decision alone and does not represent the views of all DPP members from the North.

Chitipa South Member of Parliament Werani Chilenga, who is also Member of the DPP’s National Governing Committee, has said he is shocked with the announcement by the other faction yesterday.

The group said they are not against Mutharika contesting in the 2025 polls but says they know the former president will not contest and that is why he allowed other candidates to express interest.
