Police in Mponela have arrested at least 106 students from Dowa Secondary School for allegedly inciting violence as well as malicious damage.

Mponela Police Spokesperson Macpatson Msadala has confirmed the arrests which were effected last night.

Msadala said the students had allegedly went on rampage after complaining earlier that they were being served breakfast late.

He said before the incident the school’s management called for a meeting with the students in the evening but the learners turned violent after noticing the presence of the police at the meeting.

Msadala said police had to fire teargas to disperse the angry leaners and arrested those deemed to be the ring leaders.

All the students will appear before court soon to answer their charges according to Msadala.
