A good governance commentator has attributed continued political infiltration in the country’s public institutions as a contributing factor to their under performances.

The statement comes barely a day after government through the ministry of finance named and shamed Blantyre Water Board, National Economic Empowerment Fund, ADMARC and the Tobacco Commission for their underperformances.

Executive Director of Nyika Institute Moses Mkandawire, has said that it is not surprising to see some public institutions underperforming due to continued political interference in the key positions.

Mkandawire proposed that leaders in the public institutions as well as boards should be appointed and recruited based on their merits and qualifications against the current political interference.
