Political analyst Ernest Thindwa suggests that Atupele Muluzi, the former President of the United Democratic Front (UDF), is likely to reenter active politics in response to calls from party members.

Thindwa believes Muluzi sees opportunities to gain influence by forming alliances with other political parties.

According to Thindwa, Muluzi’s strategy revolves around securing UDF leadership to facilitate negotiations with potential partners in order to improve his chances of winning elections.

Thindwa predicts that the 2025 election will likely be a competition between the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), with Muluzi aiming to position himself favorably.

UDF members in the southern region have recently presented a petition to Muluzi, urging him to contest in the upcoming convention next year.

While Muluzi’s wife, Angella, assured the members that she would pass on the petition, Atupele Muluzi is currently abroad.
