The Mulanje Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court on May 16, 2023 convicted and sentenced Edson Bisiya, 32, to 42 months imprisonment with hard labor for committing burglary and theft offenses respectively.
The court heard through state prosecutor Sub Inspector Galdson Kanyezi that, Bisiya broke into a house of mother Magret Machika and went away with iron sheets.
The matter was reported at Mulanje Mission Police Unit after Bisiya was caught offering for sale the iron sheets to a certain man in the same village by members of the community.
Appearing in court the convict pleaded guilty to the offense and during the mitigation, bisiya asked for leniency saying he is a first offender.
In submission prosecutor Kanyezi asked the court to impose a stiffer punishment citing that Bisiya’s conduct is a threat to the society.
Passing sentence, Senior Resident Magistrate Shahida Bakili concurred with the state hence sentenced him to 42 months imprisonment with hard labor for the count of burglary and 9 months for theft. All sentences to run concurrently.
Edson Bisiya hails from Namputu Village, Traditional Authority Chikumbu in Mulanje district.
