In a heartbreaking incident near Nkando trading centre along the Robert Mugabe Highway in Mulanje district, a 14-year-old girl named Binney Lubero lost her life after being struck by a vehicle.

The unfortunate incident occurred last evening when a Toyota Dyna Lorry, bearing the registration number BT 41189 and driven by Mustafa Chabwera, was allegedly traveling at an excessive speed.

According to police spokesman Sergeant Innocent Moses in Mulanje, the driver lost control of the vehicle upon reaching Nkando.

The lorry veered to the extreme nearside of the road, tragically colliding with the girl who was standing on the edge of the road. The impact of the collision caused severe head injuries and fractures to the teenager’s left leg and lower jaws.

Tragically, despite immediate medical attention, Binney Lubero succumbed to her injuries upon arrival at Mulanje District Hospital.
