Malawi Law Society has suspended one of its members Wester Kosamu of Messrs Tannalegal & Associates for six months with effect from June 1, 2023 for failing to repay K48 million owed to a client.

The disciplinary committee of the MLS, in its letter dated May 25, 2023, cites three grounds for the suspension
Among the three grounds, MLS says Kosamu engaged in personal misconduct that brings the profession of the law into disrepute, contrary to chapter 3 rule 1 of the MLS Code of Ethics.

MLS also says Kosamu failed to ensure that where there was doubt as to the capacity in which he was acting, such capacity was made as clear as possible to anyone he dealt with, contrary to Chapter 16 rule 1 of the MLS Code of Ethics.

When asked for a comment on the suspension, Kosamu, who is also board chairperson for Greenbelt Authority, said: “I cannot comment and I hope you have full context of the matter. It is well with me.”
