A good governance commentator has hailed government for holding a National Conference on the Separation of powers which is crucial in protecting democracy and governance.

The sentiments come as a t a time when President Lazarus Chakwera has spoke against the belief that the president has ultimate powers which he described it as false and unconstitutional.

In her remarks Catherine Gotani Hara, speaker of parliament highlighted that the constitutional of Malawi stipulates the importance of separation of powers as an instrument tool in safeguarding democracy.

Commenting on the matter, Moses Mkandawire executive Director of Nyika Institute said its high time that Malawians become aware on the powers and mandate of the three branches of government.

Mkandawire added that at the moment one branch becomes more monotonous which affects almost the entire nation.
