Education authorities in Nsanje Lalanje Constituency have expressed concerns over the prolonged delay in the payment of CDF bursaries for Forms 1–3 students.

The delay is negatively affecting the operations of the schools in the constituency.

A headteacher, who spoke on condition of anonymity has said that it is worrisome that only Form 4 students have been paid their bursaries.

He said the Forms 1–3 students are yet to receive their CDF bursaries, which is compromising the operations of the schools.

“It is hard for the headteachers to quiz the Member of Parliament over the delay,” he said.

The headteacher alleged that in all four constituencies in Nsanje, Forms 1–3 students have already received their CDF bursaries.

Efforts to contact the Member of Parliament for Nsanje Lalanje, Gladys Ganda, proved futile as she could not either pick up her phone or respond to a questionnaire.

However, Councillor for Lalanje Ward, Abudal Hackeem Hassan, said he is not aware of the development.

He alleged that CDF bursaries are controlled by the Member of Parliament.

“It is unfortunate that the students who are on the CDF bursary scheme have yet to receive their payments by today,” he said.

The CDF is a government fund that is allocated to each constituency in Malawi. The fund is used to support a variety of development projects, including education.
