The Malawi Police Service have singled out  community interference and insufficient funding as main challenges affecting the relocation exercise of refugees and asylum seekers to Dzaleka Refugee Camp.
However as the relocation process of refugees and asylum seekers back to the camp continues, there have been allegations and concerns that local community leaders and individuals are assisting foreign nationals in unlawfully leaving the camp to conduct business activities in the townships.
Happy Mkandawire Deputy Inspector General, responsible for administration, appealed to the public to assist the police by providing information about those who are illegally returning to various communities across the country in order to resume their business operations.
Mkandawire stated that asylum seekers who depart from Dzaleka Refugee Camp without following the proper procedures and documentation will be considered as criminals.
