Machinga District Council has elected United Democratic Front (UDF) councillor for Mposa ward, Cydric Stande, as its new chairperson.

He replaces councillor Richard Matenje of Likwenu ward.

Stande amassed 11 votes defeating Willard Kambanga who got 8 votes with Demister Makunganya of Mbonechera ward elected as vice chairperson.

Meanwhile, the two have vowed to close down all financial loopholes at the council, which have allegedly resulted to the district’s failure to develop.
