Police in Ntcheu have arrested 8 people for suspecting them that they allegedly found in connection to the stealing of iron sheets from a truck that reportedly caught fire in the district on August 3 this year.
Public Relations Officer for Ntcheu Police Station Rabecca Ndiwate has identified the suspects as Chifundo Kapingu, Luka Matius, Maxwell Lawrent, Rhoda Raphael, Lisnat Raphael, Wilson Afiki, Martin Andrew and Justin Richard.
Ndiwate said that the truck accidentally caught fire between Bawi and Salima turnoff.
She further said that the suspects were among the villagers the truck driver sought help from in saving the sheets from the accident.
In the process of helping, they started stealing the iron sheets, taking them to their homes.
Police have since recovered 108 iron sheets and the suspects will appear in court soon to answer charges of theft which contravenes Section 278 of the Penal Code.
