President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on Thursday led Malawians from all walks of life in paying last respect to late Dr Goodall Edward Gondwe at his residence in Lilongwe.

Gondwe a prolific scholar, an accomplished economist and veteran politician passed on Tuesday night at the age of 87 after a short illness and was still serving as the DPP Vice President for the Northern Region.

Chakwera was accompanied by some Malawi Congress Party (MCP) top officials.

Speaking on behalf of the family DPP Treasure General Jappie Mhango hailed President Chakwera for being together with the Gondwe’s family during this difficult moment.

Born in 1936 in the northern region district of Mzimba, Gondwe went on to serve the Malawi government and some international organizations in various high positions before returning home to pursue his political career.

As politician he served in various ministerial portfolios under four post multiparty democracy presidents.

Late Goodall Edward Gondwe will be laid to rest on Sunday, at his home village in Mzimba district.
