He is not the man behind what the Information Minister, Pastor Brown Mpinganjira, said were calls on the life of the President and his family but Malawi voice editor and journalist, Justice Mponda, has been charged with threatening and intimidating the first family.

The charge against Mponda comes after he was arrested in an abduction style last Friday in Blantyre by the police together with a Peoples’ Party executive member who is also an aspirant for Zomba Central, Joseph Chikwemba.

Mponda was, on the day of the arrest, accused of extortion for allegedly obtaining money from Chikwemba after pulling down a story from Malawi Voice that linked the first family, especially son Geoff Kachale, to the loot at the Capitol hill.

However, after spending the whole of the weekend in a Blantyre police station cell, Mponda’s charges were revised and he was charged with threatening the first family of the state President.

This is the second time for Mponda to be arrested by the Banda regime.
