The Speaker of the National Assembly, Henry Chimunthu Banda, yesterday cautioned the citizenry on marching to Parliament.
The Speaker’s remarks came days after staff from the Kamuzu Central Hospital marched to the August house to present their grievances after failing to find proper assistance from the executive branch of government.
The Speaker said that it was not in a proper order for people to just be taking it to Parliament whenever a problem arose as it is a dignified house.
He further outlined that people can just choose a representative to deliver a petition to Parliament without a whole group escorting the petition.
The remarks by the head of the house have not sat well with some people accusing him of trying to trample on the basic tenets of democracy of which demonstrations are an element.
