Police in Lilongwe have found five live round cartilages for an AK47 assault rifle and cash amounting to K1.5 million in containers it recently confiscated from refugees.

National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Kalaya, the ammunition and money were found with the help of sniffer dogs.

He added the items have been found in 22 of the 125 containers. Some of the relocated refugees were allegedly using the containers for various businesses across the country’s townships.

Police confiscated the containers in the course of relocating the refugees to Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa.

Minister of Homeland Security, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, has since called for patience among Malawians as the men in uniform continue with their work.
