Two children of the same family have died after eating a meal prepared from wild beans popularly called Kalongonda at Kabata Village in the area of Chief Chidzuma in Kasungu.

Kasungu Police Spokesperson, Joseph Kachikho saying the incident happened on Tuesday.

Kachikho has since identified the deceased as Hopeson and Edson Kachiwaya aged 16 and 8 respectively.

Two other family members, the father and another child are currently admitted to Kasungu District Hospital where they are receiving treatment after consuming the same wild beans.

It is reported that the family works at a farm in the area as tenants and the children had prepared the wild beans as relish.

The mother was treated as an outpatient.
