Malawi Women’s National Football Team will have to battle it all for a place in the final of Cosafa Cup tournament as they face Mozambique in the semifinals this afternoon at Lucas Moripe Stadium in South Africa.

The scorchers are aiming at their first ever gold at this year’s tournament, having finished as runners-up to guests Tanzania in 2021.

Malawi Women’s National Football Team Coach Lovemore Fazili said the girls are ready to fight for a place in the final and Mozambique should be prepared for a tough test when they face each.

“So far so good everything is ok we have tried to rectify our problems and the players are ready to deliver,” said Fazili

Captain Temwa Chawinga said they are in the right frame of mind and she is optimistic that they will win the match.

“We are taking this match seriously. We want to make history by winning the cup for the first time,” she Chawinga.

Temwa is having a tournament of her life at the competition where she is the leading goal scorer with seven goals in just two matches.

She started with a hat-trick in a 4-3 win over hosts South Africa before netting four goals against eSwatini.

In 2021 Malawi reached the finals of the Cosafa Cup but failed to clinch the title after they were defeated by 1-0 by Tanzania.
