Government have expressed disappointment with the increment of killings elderly people in the country.
From January 2023, Malawi has recorded 20 deaths of elderly people due to mob justice.
This has been revealed when the Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Jean Sendeza visited Mai Mbambande Foundation to donate food and non food items.
Mai Mbambande is an elderly home which provide basic needs for 75 elderly people under the control of a young woman Deborah Mbale based in Lilongwe.
“I appeal to the public to respect the elderly and let us accord them the respect they deserve,” said Sendeza.

She added that soon a bill that protects older persons will be tabled in Malawi Parliament to ensure that they are respected and protected in the country.
