Former first lady Gertrude Mutharika has received an award from the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (Oaflad) in recognition of her outstanding contribution towards the growth of the organisation.
Mutharika was vice-president for the organisation from 2015 to 2017 before serving as it’s president between 2017 and 2018.
Former president Peter Mutharika’s spokesperson Shadric Namalomba said Oaflad presented the award to Mrs. Mutharika during its 20th anniversary meeting held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia recently.
Speaking in an interview, Namalomba said the former first lady was “extremely grateful for the recognition”.
“This award, she hopes, will motivate sitting First Ladies in Africa to do more to promote the Oaflad,” said Namalomba.
